SPACES AVAILABLEFrom time to time, Splinter has spaces within the workshop available for new members. Splinter Workshop is a collaborative workshop of independent designer/makers who are committed, not only to their own work, but to the development and on-going success of Splinter Workshop. As a member, you would not just be renting a space; you would be contributing to all aspects of the running of the workshop including:
Splinter provides an environment of contagious creativity where advice and assistance is always available from like minded colleagues with a broad range of experience and a shared passion. The inconvenience of our location on the second level is more than compensated by the expansive views, the kauri timber floors, and the abundance of natural light. The industrial nature of St Peters provides easy access to a large range of services and supplies including, metal work, glass, fasteners, hardware, leather, fabric, laser cutting and several sawmills within a ten minute drive. The workshop is part of a group of older buildings that are home to numerous arts and crafts people from a variety of disciplines. Their collective presence gives the complex the feel of a creative community. The workshop is set out in an open plan style, with each member allocated a space of approximately 5 x 4 metres. Each person supplies their own workbench, hand and power tools etc. There are common areas including several glue-up tables, lunch table and make-shift kitchen, office and bathrooms. Adjoining the workshop is a separate and almost soundproof machine room containing a range of woodworking machines, storage racks and a spray booth which everyone shares.
To join Splinter Workshop, you need to become a member of our incorporated association, Splinter Workshop Inc. and pay a bond and a monthly contribution towards our operating costs (rent, insurances etc.). If you are interested, we ask you to submit a written expression of interest outlining your background, your training/qualifications and images of your work, and attend an interview with other members. Before doing this we suggest you contact Splinter on (02) 9517 2212 and arrange a visit and informal chat.
