American
White Oak Single Beds
by Stuart Faulkner
The two single beds were designed to sit next to
each other, one featuring three large full extension draws for
storage, whilst the other has a standard single bed that pulls
out on 210kg full extension draw runners
for extra smooth action. The bed is further supported in the out
position by a pair of 100kg smooth fixed rubber castor's.
The
beds disassemble into a number of manageable parts that can
be manoeuvred comfortably through the tightest of spaces. The 65mm
thick headboards feature a newly imported poplar triple core
blockboard veneered with matched quarter sawn American White
Oak and solid edging.
The frames have a laminated Hoop Pine
Ply core for reduced weight and extra strength and stability
and are veneered with book matched hand cut solid veneers. The
timber frames house a nickel plated steel frame for maximum rigidity.
Both beds feature laminated beech slats and articulated pockets
as well as additional lumbar support slats for superior comfort.
The
cantilevered side shelves are strong enough to be used as a seat
and can be easily removed when the third bed is needed. This
project combines good design with the most appropriate materials
and technologies to successfully answer a challenging brief.
